5 Steps to Re-decorate Your Bedroom

One third of your life is spent in your bedroom. It is a room where you can reflect your personal style in the colors, fabrics, furnishings and atmosphere. Create your dream bedroom by following these steps.

Step 1: Remove clutter - Re-decorating (and even cleaning) a cluttered room is more difficult than necessary. Anything that doesn't belong in your bedroom has to go. Now it's time to tidy up your room (take some time to hang up clothes, put jewelry away, etc.). Closet organizers and clear plastic tubs. are good investments to help with this. Remember, a place for everything and everything in its place. Make or find a place for each item.

Step 2: Furniture repair - When you look at your bedroom furniture, how does it look? If it is not in good repair, this is a good time to repair it. Dab a bit of stain on those scratches or dings in your furniture. No one has time in the morning to struggle with drawers that won't slide so replace or repair them. Change things up by moving the furniture into a new layout. Feel free to be creative but keep in mind that the furniture needs to be functional. Strive to keep a balanced look. The bed is the star of the bedroom.

Step 3: Bedding - I recommend that you choose your bedding BEFORE choosing paint. Paint is available in all colors imaginable. Save time and elimiate hassle. Use the bed sets you chose to help you select the paint color!

It is wise to choose TWO new bedding sets. For easy decorating, get bed in a bag sets. Commonly bedding sets contain matching sheets and pillow cases, a bed cover and pillow shams. You will be able to change the look of the room easily if you have two sets.

There is a difference between a duvet and a comforter. They have a similar function. They keep heat in while you sleep. Duvets are usually white or off-white and should be used with a duvet cover. A duvet cover is a giant pillow case for duvets. The duvet slips inside so it's protected. Duvets wear out more quickly when laundered frequently. Duvet covers are. Just slip the cover off for laundering so you don't have to wash the whole duvet (filling and all) each time. 3-5 years between cleanings is all that a duvet needs.

Comforters are not just white. They are covered with the "fashion fabric" on the outside and do not need a cover. The disadvantage is that the entire bulky comforter must be washed frequently and some need dry cleaning. Dry cleaning a comforter gets costly. Don't throw out your old comforter, put a duvet cover over it.

Bed sizes are not universal. Internet stores have an amazing array of styles and colors for any shopper. Know your measurements before ordering. You will need to know the length and width of your mattress as well as the depth or thickness. Fitted sheets are available in different mattress depths. Measure from the top of the box spring to the floor for the "drop" of a bed skirt.

Step 4: Choosing Paint - For an inexpensive yet effective room transformation, be sure to paint the walls (and possibly the ceiling).

Staff at the paint store can help you better if you take both bedding sets with you. Seek assistance. Pick a color that will work with both sets. Helpful staff can direct you to great paint color choices based on your bedding. In fact, it's better if it doesn't. Just find one that will compliment or contrast the colors nicely. Choose a ceiling color a shade or two lighter than the walls.

Step 5: Complete the Look - After the paint is dry, hang pictures, paintings, and wall decoration if you desire. Install curtain rod hardware, curtains, etc. and make your bed with the new bedding.

5 easy steps to a transformed bedroom: Remove clutter, repair and replace furniture, buy some new bedding, paint the walls, and add some finishing touches. Now you have your dream bedroom.

Buying A Stairway To That Hard To Reach Spot On The Ceiling: The Led Zeppelin Ladder... (The Daily Swarm)

Fast Company:

> Using a ladder while it’s leaning against a corner is a private, domestic
version of Jackass. Everyone knows it’s a stupid thing to do--like changing a
light bulb on a swivel chair--but sometimes you feel like pressing your luck.
Arthur Analts, a 20-year-old student at Central Saint Martins College of Art
and Design, has designed a ladder to save us from ourselves. The Led Zeppelin
(pardon the obvious “Stairway to Heaven” reference) is a ladder that can be
safely climbed while standing against a corner--no crazy stunt work required.

>

> How it works: Depending on which way it's oriented, Led Zeppelin can be
positioned in three different ways: straight against the wall or at a
45-degree or 25-degree angle against a corner. Rubber pads at the ladder ends
add extra insurance against slippage, and notched rungs on the sides provide
places to hang tools and such, eliminating the need for the precarious one-
armed ascent. The best part: Zeppelin fans--DUDE!--will notice that the
ladder's jagged contours seem lifted directly from the band's logo.
