What To Work On To Be Fit Enough To Kite Surf
The popularity of kitesurfing has seen staggering growth recently. In fact, the governing body in the UK claim it is the fastest growing of all water sports. It is also one of the fastest growing extreme sports in general, and it seems people are ditching their snowboards in favour of kites, as snowboarding growth has recently been overtaken by this great sport . You're going to need your body to be in great shape however if the sport is one you would like to take up seriously. Here are the elements that should be high on your priority list.
- Upper Body Strength. This is often considered one of the most vital fitness elements that you need to develop. 80% of the work you’ll be doing in the water will come from the upper body and you will need to really develop those muscles if you want to stay in control of the kite. The main muscles you should focus on are those of the shoulder, known as the deltoids. A lot of movement is controlled by these and they function as stabilising muscles also. You'll also need to work on your upper back muscles and the ones that make up the chest
- Core Strength. Due to fact there is so much movement and various directions of force taking place in the sport, your core muscles should be well trained. A core stability ball is a very useful piece of equipment to use to develop core strength. Weights will also need to be including in your core work to enable you to replicate the force levels that you would experience when actually performing the sport. Often the kite will want to pull you in a direction you do not want to go so it will be your developed core strength that will let you remain planted
- Aerobic Fitness. Whilst the sport might not appear to be aerobically based, you will still need to work on your heart and lungs. Because lots of different muscles will be called upon frequently, the energy systems will be calling for incredible amounts of oxygen and will be creating large amounts of lactic acid and carbon dioxide. Without strong lung and heart function to get the oxygen around the body and take way the bi-products from the system, fatigue will kick in quickly. Cycling or running are very good methods to develop your CV fitness.
If you want to get into sports like this get used kitesurfing gear and also hunt down second hand bikes here at Extreme Sports Trader
Please help me find information to stop this unsafe camp program!?
I currently work, (though in the way things are running, not for long) for a day camp program that has had horses in their program for the last twenty years and have always gone on trail rides. For some ungodly reason, no one has stood up to this - taking kids 7-13 who have no ability to control their horses that are not trained for trails, up and down roads that are surrounded by sports, a pool (both with scary things flying and children screaming) down narrow dirt roads where you can't see the cars coming much less move over when they come...
I need some news articles that have injuries (deaths preferred) of children who have fallen from a horse when they spook, bolt, buck (since none have fitted gear) ect.
Your personal experiences don't count - I need cold hard facts, so something pops into their heads as --- oh shit this is a bad idea.
Hi- I was wondering if I would hear from you again. I answered your question about rainy day activities earlier this spring. It sounds like things where you are have gone from bad to worse, just as you predicted they would. If I remember right, you work at a girls' church camp which shouldn't even be offering riding because they have neither the facilities nor the space for it. The only thing I can suggest as far as getting print material or information is for you to contact the CHA at their website, and see if you can download their "Incidentally Speaking" column from both this year and previous years. That column is full of the kinds of horror stories that you are looking for, about kids who've gotten hurt and in some cases killed at summer camps while riding. Their web address is www.cha.org or .com, or you can simply google them at CHA-The Association for Horsemanship Safety and Education. Hopefully, that will help you out and help you get where you want to go.
Good luck. Remember, the summer is nearly over- only a few more weeks to go, and you'll be out of this nightmare.
Homeland Security Wants to Spy on 4 Square Miles at Once (Wired)
The Department of Homeland Security wants to take a cue from the military's
experience with wartime surveillance. It's looking for a camera that can spy
on four square miles -- entire neighborhoods -- at once, just like the
military has. Only the people the military snoops on aren't protected by the
Constitution.
