You Must Have A Wedding Plan
After you have announced your engagement it is time for the work to begin. Your first step is to become organized and to develop a wedding plan, as you will need to be sure that you know where everything is when you need it. You are going to be collecting many different things, such as sheets of music and samples, possibly pictures of wedding invitations and wedding gowns, as well as tons of phone numbers, contracts, receipts, business cards, estimates and a number of other items.
First you will need a wedding planner, but not necessarily of the human kind. A large wall calendar with a pen attached will do just fine. If you prefer, you can store all of your info on a computer, as long as it's a laptop and you can always have it handy. Start with a "to-do" list, add it to your calendar and be sure to get a large three ring binder with page dividers; plastic protector sheets are a good idea as well. This helps to ensure that whether you need to call someone, make an appointment or interview a vendor or other provider, the information will be easily found when you need it.
The three ring binder is important when setting up your wedding plan. It is an easy way to stay organized by keeping all of the information in one central place, which will save you much time and frustration. This can also be used later as a keepsake. If you choose one that has a plastic cover, then later you can use a wedding picture of you, the groom and the wedding party as the cover. You may also want to include one of those zippered pencil holders so that you will always have pens or hi-lighters easily accessible when you need them. Make sure to use a divider for each section of the wedding, such as for caterers, flowers, music, photography, etc.

Another important factor in the wedding plan is being prepared when you interview potential service providers. This means having a list of questions ready for them. Take a notepad with you to the interviews with your questions written down. As well, jot down any ideas or impressions that you may have so that you can review them later.
